Cat
noun
1 a: carnivorous mammals that never were timorous;
oppressing the unfortunate mice (birds, snakes, etc.) they find;
but not picky - carefully packed cans are just as nice.
b: companions, oh surely;
yet just as often aloof and surly.
2 a: a family, Felidae, wild and free;
from the lynx and the sphinx
to the lion and the little ones
that lie on my knee;
cousins that purr while on other horizons,
mighty roars ring out over the miles.
3 a: perfection.

I like writing poems in the form of dictionary entries. This one isn't my best, but it still amuses me.

Defining a cat is like nailing Jello to the wall!! lol

ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
DeleteThat’s an interesting form – an idea for a future prompt, perhaps! I too have tried to define a cat, but they are elusive creatures. I agree totally with ‘companions… yet just as often aloof and surly’, ‘wild and free’ and, most of all, ‘perfection’.
ReplyDeleteI think it would make a great prompt! Eventually, I'd like to get around to doing the whole alphabet as a personalized poem dictionary. No idea what I'd do for X though.
DeletePurrfectly charming and smart. Loved it! Peace~Jason
ReplyDeleteAgree on all three points: Cat-tastic!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it!
DeleteThis is quite clever ... like the cat! Love the rhyme and dictionary form. Cheers.
