for dVerse
self portrait
framed
two eyes but
missing glasses
for eyes aren’t better
framed
two hands
one smile
me
me
one person
thousand tales
folded back and forth
like creases in a walnut
memories, experiences
missing or not
as you look
some things remain
unframed
A cool response to the prompt....I like my views unframed, so I resonate with this poem.
ReplyDeleteSo true...each person has thousands of tales. Thanks for sharing a tidbit of you. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the last 4 lines.
ReplyDelete"like creases in a walnut" the walnut image both outside and inside works so well here...
ReplyDelete''some things remain unframed'' - best line (for me) of a wonderful sp!
ReplyDelete"Like creases in a walnut" ... What a fabulous nugget of imagery!
ReplyDeleteSome things are unframed -- maybe waiting to happen? Or hidden away in a private gallery?
Thanks for responding to my prompt! Hope you'll meander in dVerse a bit and see some of the other cameos too - it's been fun to "meet" so many folks!
I also like the walnut but the ending line got me:
ReplyDeletesome things remain
unframed
So nice to meet you at D'verse, smiles.
But your words frame you nicely, leaving little doubt of your poetic verity! Well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a creative way to think about a self-portrait! You could almost read the poem backwards and it makes perfect sense.
ReplyDelete"...eyes aren’t better
ReplyDeleteframed"
An echo of an old "truism"? It took me years to discover most truisms aren't. Carefully worded poem that reveals you through a set of lenses of your own choosing. I enjoyed your biopoem.
I like the openendedness of this that speaks to the fact that we are still unfinished works of art.
ReplyDeleteI like the framing and the unframed...leaves much room open for living and loving...bkm
ReplyDeleteI really like the second stanza. "thousand tales/folded back and forth/
ReplyDeletelike creases in a walnut".
Some things remain unframed. So true...when if we were to write a bio 1000 times longer, we could only scratch the surface, but you give a lovely glimpse!
ReplyDeletethousand tales folded back and forth like creases in a walnut..this is such a vivid image. A black walnut - full of richness and flavor, valuable wood....I love this image.
ReplyDeleteI like the theme of framed vs. unframed that weaves through this. The walnut image is so unique and effective.
