It’s enough to run side to side
In five minutes, twist and run it again
My brother and I, racing
From the back of the house
To the corner of the chain link fence
Turn again to our world
Where a yellow lab barks
And robins flutter up from the trees
And robot overlords come crashing down
In world domination
Until they meet the heroes – us
Also
Where I mow on Saturdays
Rack leaves in fall
Climb the lone tree
After the peaches on the top branch
Enough space in the world
For everything

This evoked memories of my own childhood running around my dusty back yard with my little sister!
ReplyDeleteA child's view of the back yard. Refreshing and evocative write!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely time and place for growing up ~ Love your ending lines ~
ReplyDeleteI liked these lines: "And robot overlords come crashing down
ReplyDeleteIn world domination"
For a child the world can be a backyard.
ReplyDelete"enough space in the world for anything" - oh, what an innocent sentence. I enjoyed your piece a lot.
ReplyDeleteAhh, those days... Well captured.
