Among headstones
Flags flapping, snapping
Red and white and blue
Remembering
Loved ones I knew
Others only stories
And fallen soldiers
Pinwheels spinning
In the breeze
Green and pink and blue
Twirling, swirling
Entrancing a child
Catching me between tears
And a baby’s laugh
A very vivid and meaningful scene. I like the contrast of sorrow and joy in the last two lines.
ReplyDeleteI love that last line, especially. Isn't that where we always are? Somewhere between sorrow and joy, and bound by both?
ReplyDeleteYou made it very immediate.
ReplyDeleteWonderful last line, tying the ancestors back to the living.
ReplyDeleteI admire the details of the day specially the spinning pinwheels, and the emotional response of between teas and laughter ~
ReplyDelete"Between tears and a baby's laugh" - that line really got me...the joyful innocence of an infant...made possible by the sacrifice of those who fought for his/her freedom.
ReplyDeleteAh, what a beautiful capture of life, and all it encompasses, from its beginning to end, laughter and tears.
