Magpie Tale 140
The sleeping dragon stirred, blowing out faint whispers of flame. For a moment they lighted up the cave, causing the stalactites to cast brief shadows. The waters in the pool glinted once. Then the flames rolled on; over the gold coins from different ages and to the part of the cave the dragon had dubbed the New Section.
The dragon was not overly fond of the treasure in the New Section. The flames found soft white and green leaf-like rectangles, soft and flimsy. Burnable. With a delighted flicker the fire took hold and burned. A blaze sprung up, showering the cavern with light. The cave was small; the dragon took up most of the room with his tail dipping into the pond. The pool shone deep blue-green in the center, yellowing at the edges and smelling of rotted eggs. The fire happily blackened the cave wall causing painted deer, the work of men thousands of years before to disappear. Smoke drifted among the stalactites, painting the ceiling, then curled down around the dragon’s nose.
The dragon snorted and finally woke. With a hiss of annoyance he peered about the cave. The treasure of the New Section was destroyed. The dragon growled in disgust. These modern humans were crazy. Burnable money. What would they think of next? He watched awhile as the light danced along his gold. Then swishing his tail, the dragon swatted the glowing treasure into the pool. The light vanished, and the dragon resumed his sleep. There was nothing left to be seen.
very fun! I like the idea, and I thought it was quite amusing. Poor dragon, maybe he could collect giftcards? :)
