Halloween Night

for dVerse

Forest
Black night on All Hallows’ Eve
Blighted creatures; wretched spirits
Loose this night with all mankind
Rustle of leaves behind me.
It is the wind.

The journey is not long
I’ve made it in safe daylight, yet
Never at dead midnight have I walked
Who else roams here this night?
No one but myself alone.

My lantern is bright
But outside its glow I have no eyes
What is that beyond my light?
Fingers reaching from the trees.
Only branches dancing for the breeze.

And what noise was that?
More than zephyr in the leaves
A step, most surely
Of man or beast
I quick step, pause
Slow walk.
I’m not afraid.

Why dared I venture out this night?
My lantern flickers, falters, fails
Too frightened to go forward
Yet I fear to turn back
What will become of me?
Alone on All Hallows’ Eve.

  1. haha...no matter how many times you have walked the path it looks completely different in the dark....and esp when the veil between the worlds grows thin...be safe out there...
