Picture Perfect

Magpie Tale 141

Jessie sat in the car and glared at the rain. When she had agreed to come with her brother to pick up his fiancé Crystal, she’d been excited. Jessie had been dreaming of winning the Annual Holden Photo contest since she was seven and Crystal’s parent’s house was picturesque. The perfect place to snap a prize-winning photo. But now the rain was messing up her perfect picture plans, which meant she’d spent four hours in a car driving up and had a another four hours back all for nothing.

The rain hurtled down uncaring; as her brother, Ethan, carefully drove up the long drive to the house. Jessie gazed longingly at the old turrets covered in ivy, almost impossible to see in the rain. Ethan jumped out, as oblivious to the rain as the rain was to Jessie’s plans. Crawling into the back seat, she had to smile. Ethan would make a good husband. Crystal came flying out of the house and into Ethan’s arms. She at least had brought an umbrella, but somehow it slipped from her grasp. They kissed, and suddenly Jessie couldn’t move fast enough.

Out came her camera and she nearly dropped it in her haste as she started snapping pictures. Ethan and Crystal were indignant when they realized what was going on, but Jessie didn’t care. She had her prize-winning photo after all.
