Cold

Snowy earth revels in winter’s chill
Hiemal ermine covering every hill
Gelid nights and frigid days
Paint the lakes in icy glaze
While blasting wind benumbs eyes
Cheeks, and lashes; frosting  gloveless fingers
Piercing polar coats and arctic boots
And snowflakes recolor winter suits

Hiemal - relating to winter
Gelid - extremely cold

Written for dVerse.

  1. I can feel the chill running through this quadrille, enhanced by the steady rhythm and rhyme scheme, as if we are trudging through the snow and ice in our polar coats and arctic boots. It reminds me of the Christmas hymn,
    'In the bleak mid-winter,
    frosty wind made moan,
    earth stood hard as iron,
    water like a stone'.

  2. This is beautiful. I love how you've used rhyme here to move this along, and give it the rhythm of those snowy hills.
