Song for the Winds

for dVerse

O fierce East wind, hear my plea!
Tolls changed my love into a bear
He’s held by a dark, stormy sea
East of the sun, west of the moon

O strong West wind, hear my plea!
I’ve wandered over all the earth
Where is the place, oh, please take me
East of the sun, west of the moon

O bold South wind, hear my plea!
With golden gifts I’ll rescue him
When once I find the troll-fraught sea
East of the sun, west of the moon

O great North wind, hear my plea!
Your brothers have brought me to you
Now up on your back carry me
East of the sun, west of the moon

This poem was inspired by the fairy tale East of the Sun and West of the Moon.

  3. Wonderful mythology in this poem - beseeching the winds for help. I will remember this on the occasions my love is turned into a bear :) Thanks for sharing this with us!

  6. I love that there is a plea to each of the winds -- north, south, east, and west. Excellent balance and repetition in this. Peace, Linda

  7. I read this first and then read it aloud. it is a wonderful read. Almost ritualistic in the pleas and then the linking to the story. The winds are all different as well. Hayes Spencer is Kanzensakura
