for dVerse
Trumpets sound in the morning air
The field is laid so deadly green
Noble knights roaming everywhere
But I only watch the archers
Will he come? Again the trumpets blare
My small favor for the winner
And a gold arrow if he dare
So I only watch the archers
The sun climbs high above my chair
On the green brave knights fight and
bleed
The rowdy crowd cheers their warfare
Yet I only watch the archers
At last! See how the archers fare
They shoot arrow after arrow
But no sign of bold Robin there
And I only watch the archers
The crowd shouts, the winner declare
He smiles to receive his prize
They catch Robin Hood in their snare
Yet I only watch the archer
My heart is drowning in despair
But his men spring from every side
Fighting till they flee elsewhere
Still I only watch the archer
Yes.. the archer.. the back bone of the medieval battle.. the grunt of the trenches that is the core of war.. to get the job done.. and well a mention as tole.. in poetry lore..:)
ReplyDeletenice...the archer can be pretty entrancing...especially if they know what they are doing...because it takes a certain amount of skill to get that arrow to go where you want...but even still, the hear to frobin hood is rather entrancing as well...
ReplyDeleteKeep watching, devoted maid!
ReplyDeleteOh I enjoyed this very much - loved the repeated refrain
ReplyDeleteAh, there really is something so graceful about the archers, I think. No wonder she only focused on them....
ReplyDeletelove the classic tale, Robin Hood.
ReplyDeleteI like how you used an old tale but tackled it from the angle of someone who loves 'the archer'.
ReplyDeleteOh fair Marian.. what a great angle.. and maybe if she waits the archer will come for her.
ReplyDeletelovely tale... I love to watch archery competitions on espn so I'm all in on this write...
ReplyDeleteOh, this was rather fun to read..the archer has caught the lady's eye.
ReplyDeleteThe form is well suited for this poem..or vice versa....there's something reverent about archery and I think you captured that substance.
ReplyDeletelove this take on the merry men ~
