for dVerse and The Honeybee
Looking back
I see You
And yet –
Looking forward
You cannot see me
What would I say
To You, Myself?
When You cannot hear?
What advice should I give
To the tunnel
You must grope through?
Which from My end
Is lit
But from Yours
Is Dark all through?
Or what advice would I,
Myself
Give – If I could stand
farther
And Look back again?
What warning, what guide?
To what stay true?
Or would You speak to Me
I think I know Your worry
Never fear
I have kept My Essence
And Looking forward from
here
Through the mist
Though Myself I cannot see
That Essence I see still
I really enjoyed this. It is interesting to think about what advice one would give oneself if one had the insight to do so!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, wish I could have given myself some good advice to at times. I know what you mean by losing yourself but still seeing the essence.
ReplyDeleteWould we listen to our future self.. What an interesting thought.. I think we would listen to ourselves as much as we ever listened to our parents.
ReplyDeleteYou kept your rhythms steady all the way through. For the most part iamb anapest or anapest iamb and though changing the meter in a mirror like fashion throughout the piece. It is very effective as your point in the poem is reflection and the meter does just that. Kudos on your use of rhythm. If this is your usual voice, that's interesting too; however, my guess is that you were able to guide your rhythm to match your subject matter. Very skillful.
ReplyDeleteI love the poem and all the extensions of it going both directions. Thanks for the interesting perspective you've given me today.
ReplyDelete=)
Remarkably innovative, and quite thoughtful...
ReplyDeleteExcellent...
ReplyDeleteI like how you perceive the tunnel to be a living thing....
