When the typhoon
raged
And sent
sheets of rain and wind
Howling and
crashing through the streets
The hotel
was quiet inside
Expect for
the ringing of the phone
“The flight’s
canceled,”
Quenching
the flame of excitement
We had dreamed
of for over a year
Home was
only an ocean away
Five days of
waiting
Not sadly –
this place was our home too –
But there
were ashes on the flame
We seemed to
forget
That ocean
was crossable
Until the
fourth day we remembered
That home
was a possibility
And ghost
flames of excitement rose
Yet when the
airplane took flight
It still
seemed a dream
Until I
heard my own language
And your
voice on the phone
Then saw you
waiting for me
When I came
home
oh. what a hard delay...to be so looking forward to going home...and having the storm...but when you do land...it is so nice to feel so at home...
ReplyDeleteWhen ocean separates and that flight is delayed.. what can you do but wait?... but at the end the meeting is so much sweeter.. I can really feel how this felt unreal, until reality came back once you were boarded.. as much an inner journey as a real one.. combining in the end of coming home.
ReplyDeletemultiple homes here... loved the second stanza... nicely done
ReplyDeleteit's such a great feeling to have someone waiting for you at home... loved the temporary homes you had to create in those moments of delays
ReplyDeleteI liked the waiting and the reward.
ReplyDeleteLike the journey from the unavoidable delay of a long-anticipated trip home to the disappointment, but acceptance that your current location is now home, to the joy of finally reaching your the home of your roots. Well done.
ReplyDeleteWorth the wait :)
