The open
oven reveals
Blackness
surrounding a new world
Protected by
a golden flakey crust
Apricot lava
boiling to the surface
Cooling into
bubbled glass
Pooling at
the feet of burnt mountains
The edges
held back by a sea of glass
Lest any
traveler tumble
And fall from a flat world
Shall I bake a world? Or an apricot pie? So much is discovered there on the rack, a fullness and sweetness surrounded by "blackness." Dee-licious.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I'd like a slice of that wonderful looking apricot pie!
ReplyDeleteYour poem was a delectible metaphoric treat to wake up to this morning! I enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteI thought I had commented on this last night....this is rich - love the metaphor of hot apricot as a volcano,
ReplyDeletemmm...a very tantalizing picture. I like the image of lava and bubbled glass.
ReplyDeleteEasy as pie! You may need an ice cream mountain to go with that apricot lava, lol. :o)
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting treatment of the theme - liked your version, specially the metaphor with lava.
