After

for dVerse

She holds braids
that once she dreamed
Rapunzel-like would coil to the floor.
The cutting did not hurt.
Who knew
the inside of hair is darker
than without?
Who knew
it takes more than a haircut
to change a face?
And these Rapunzel-braids
will be someone else’s joy.
But in her mind’s mirror
the hair still floats long
and longer.

  1. this brought a couple thoughts...one being how children want to cut their own hair and do at times...but also the locks of love that people give to those in need of wigs...being someone else's joy like that...

  2. Like Brian said it made me think of Locks of Love and also how my grandmother would use my hair for wigs for her porcelain folks which was quite an honor to me as she's won several blue ribbons. :) I like how you spoke about how hair does not take away from who you are, even though, it can seem this way. Nicely done.

  3. I like the sharp and clear example - cutting the hair for someone else's joy ~ Good one ~

  4. Interesting... I really really liked this. The hair being darker on the inside than the out...meaning that there is more to someone than that what is seen? It made me think about a child having something taken away from them (the locks) and in the injustice, dreaming of them still (if that makes sense)- sorry if im 100% going in the wrong direction! but i actually think this is very clever an well written indeed

  8. it is strange what can be cut away and still leave the person behind. imagine being a lizard and dropping a tail!

  9. made me think of a friend who had her very long hair cut and then gave it away to be made into wigs for cancer patients. As children, we don't know that the scissors in our hair don't mean pain - doubly difficult to deal with after all the warnings about sharp things like knives!!
