Before the magic of hooks and needles
dance through stretched out string
forming curving pathways,
there’s the whir and work and magic of the swift.
Whisking thread from hank to ball
thus molding the universe
and preparing for triumph
long before the work begins.
A swift is used to hold a hank of yarn while it's being wound into a ball.
I didn't know this. Thanks for your poem which I enjoyed reading.
ReplyDeleteNot only have I learnt a new meaning of the word ‘swift’, I’ve also enjoyed the movement and sound of it being used.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that meaning! Thank you for sharing it. I love the anticipation of creation here, enjoyment in the preparation. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteCreatives at work...with both yarn and pen! Interesting use of "swift" here.
ReplyDeleteLike the others, I owe you for adding to my vocab, and especialy for doing so in such a wonderfully creative way. Well done.
ReplyDeleteNew information to me. The work before the magic, I like that idea.
ReplyDeleteHad never heard of that being a swift... but you need to prepare.
