Once upon a time there was a very sleepy sheep. He had a thick, soft, wooly coat, and two big curly horns, and one really big problem. He couldn’t go to sleep. He was a very tired sheep, but no matter what he did, he couldn’t fall asleep.
He ate all the grass and clover he could find, but this did not help him sleep. So he moved on to other foods. He made a salad with tomatoes and croutons and parsnips, but he still didn’t nod off. So he ordered a pizza with extra cheese, then a chocolate cake with chocolate chips and washed it all down with two quarts of pink lemonade with a little umbrella. He tried to eat the umbrella too, just in case. But none of this worked.
The sleepy sheep decided that food was not helping, so he changed tactics. He went for a run all over his pasture to wear himself out. But this did not help. So he did fifty jumping jacks. But although jumping jacks take a lot of energy, he couldn’t sleep. So he took a bike ride, then a spelunking trip, and finished off with three laps in an Olympic swimming pool. But at the end of it all, he still wasn’t inclined towards sleep.
By now the sheep was very sleepy. He really wanted to be in his dreams. So he made up his bed, and fluffed up his pillow. And as he lay there, he looked up at the stars and started counting humans. And by the time he reached 17,152, he drifted off. Soon, the pasture was serenaded with his snores as the sleepy sheep slumbered.
Prompt: Bedtime story.
