A Few Words on Birds

for dVerse

Drifting

fanfare on the lake
gold trumpets
sounding in the air

clouds in still water
lazy days
with tranquility

shimmering feathers
bright ballet
between shadow and sun

a lamentation
new moon weeps
sable tears all night

eyrar reflected
in deep pool
as clouds in the sky

the white sails flying
regatta
racing down the stream

poised with graceful ease
floating pearl
majestic royal

Of swans

Asylum

water dance under
gibbous moon
shedding light on waves

Drift, fanfare, tranquility, ballet, lamentation, eyrar, regatta, and royal are all names applied to a group of swans. For more swan groupings (more than 20!) see here.

This form of poetry is called a lune. So of course I had to write one about a loon. Asylum and a water dance are names for a group of loons. For more see here

  1. I admire their graceful dancing ~ And your Asylum piece is also stellar ~

I commend you for the lune poetry form ~ It's challenge to choose the words for each line ~

  2. I love your description-packed showcase of all things swan and especially how you liken them to sailboats. Beautifully done. Also, your lune poetry is just lovely.
